Nvidia: New RTX 50x0 Graphics Cards and a Mini AI Supercomputer – also for Resolve?

As fully leaked beforehand, Nvidia presented a new graphics card lineup at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). However, the absolute top model with 32 GB (RTX 4090) will not be available first; instead, they are starting one class below: The RTX 5080 is expected to be available from January 21st with 16 GB DDR7 RAM for /€1,169. Due to the upgrade to DDR7 on a 256-bit bus, the data throughput is approximately 960 GB/s. For video applications, this RTX 5080 should therefore be roughly on par with an RTX 4090.
However, the real sensation Nvidia presented is Project DIGITS. This is a mini AI computer in the format of a small desktop PC, based on a new CUDA GB10 processor. This is a System-on-a-Chip (SoC) based on the NVIDIA Grace Blackwell architecture and is expected to deliver up to 1 petaflop of AI performance with FP4 precision. This is complemented by an ARM CPU, 128 GB DDR5 unified memory, and an SSD of up to 4 TB.
Nvidia&s Project DIGITS puts a mini AI supercomputer on the desktop
Technically, it&s a bit like a Mac Studio with an Ultra processor, but this mini AI supercomputer is expected to be available from €3,000. It is primarily intended to run under Linux, but there is little reason why ARM-Windows could not be installed, provided Nvidia provides the relevant drivers.
Since Resolve is also available for Linux and supports CUDA GPUs there, Project DIGITS could prove to be a cost-effective Resolve workstation. However, it is not yet clear how high the FP32 computing power, which is interesting for this purpose, will be, but the first devices should be available from May. That could be very exciting.
