OWC has announced the ThunderBlade X12, a professional RAID solution leveraging Thunderbolt 5 for maximum speed. It&s specifically targeted at film professionals and Digital Imaging Technicians (DITs) seeking a mobile storage solution combining ample storage with consistently high transfer speeds. OWC ThunderBlade X12 With speeds up to 6,500 MB/s, the ThunderBlade X12 doubles the performance of its predecessor and surpasses the maximum transfer speed of Thunderbolt 4 (around 5,000 MB/s), making the use of Thunderbolt 5 worthwhile. The ThunderBlade X12 RAID system will be offered in capacities from 12TB to 96TB and can be configured as RAID 0, 1, 4, 5, and 10, allowing optimization for either speed or security depending on needs. OWC cites applications including on-set productions as an editing drive for video editors and VFX artists working with data-intensive multi-cam sequences in 4K, 6K, 8K, and 12K RAW video or stereoscopic 360-VR (Spatial Video). The OWC ThunderBlade X12 can work at full speed with systems such as Apple&s new Mac Mini M4 or the recently introduced high-end gaming notebooks Razer Blade 18 or the Clevo X580 thanks to Thunderbolt 5.
