It seems to be a foregone conclusion among smartphone manufacturers that 1-inch sensors will be the state of the art in top smartphones by 2024. And so far, Sony's the latest LYTIA 900 model seems to be leading the race in many smartphones. Among other things, there are rumors that this sensor will be found in the next Pro generation of iPhones.
A well-known Chinese leaker (Digital Chat Station) now claims to have learned that the upcoming Xiaomi 14 Ultra will feature a 1-inch omnivision sensor (OV50N) with new "LOFIC technology", which is said to be at least on a par with Sony's current flagship sensor.
Will Sony's LYTIA sensors soon have competition from Omnivision?
This slightly modified Omnivision sensor is to be marketed under its own "Light Hunter 1000" brand and deliver "better" results than the dual-transistor technology advertised by Sony. Which of course needs to be proven first.
As Leica is jointly responsible for the camera and optics technology at Xiaomi, this could herald an exciting smartphone camera race in 2024, especially as Omnivision is no small player in the sensor market.
