[09:37 Mon,1.July 2024   by Thomas Richter]

Philips has introduced the new 49" (124 cm) monitor 49B2U6903CH, which offers a very large desktop workspace thanks to its 5K resolution in a 32:9 format of 5,120 x 1,440 pixels (Double QHD), effectively replacing two side-by-side 27" 16:9 Quad-HD monitors. Additional practical features include its two Thunderbolt 4 ports, which allow for daisy chaining multiple monitors via multi-streaming. Additionally, the 49B2U6903CH integrates a webcam for video conferences and KVM functionality, which offers some intelligent features.

The curved VA panel covers 97% of the NTSC color space and 119% of the RGB color space - the coverage of the professional DCI-P3 color space is not mentioned, but since the monitor is DisplayHDR 400 certified, it should cover at least 90%. The monitor achieves a maximum brightness of 450 nits in SDR mode and 500 nits in HDR mode.

Interfaces

The interfaces of the Philips 49B2U6903CH include two HDMI 2.0 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4, one Thunderbolt 4 (upstream, data, video, PD up to 100 W) input, as well as one Thunderbolt 4 output (downstream, data, video, PD 15 W), 2.5G Ethernet LAN, and a USB 3.2 Gen 2 hub. Depending on the interface used, different refresh rates can be utilized at the full resolution of 5,120 x 1,440: 60 Hz via HDMI 2.0, 100 Hz using DisplayPort 1.4, and 75 Hz via Thunderbolt.

Integrated Webcam

Integrated into the monitor for video conferences and similar uses is a 5-megapixel webcam with a microphone featuring noise cancelling, as well as speakers. The webcam can be flexibly adjusted by 30 degrees for optimal recording and also features an auto-framing function, which automatically adjusts the framing when one or more people enter or leave the webcam&s view.

The webcam is also equipped with facial recognition sensors and is certified for Windows Hello, meaning you can log into the connected PC with it, similar to a smartphone. A special "busylight" is located on the webcam and can be synchronized with the status of Microsoft Teams to signal the user&s work status to their immediate surroundings. If it is set to "busy" or "do not disturb," it lights up red.

Smart KVM

With KVM, you can switch between different sources with just one click on the keyboard. When all devices are connected, users can easily switch between sources by pressing the Ctrl key three times.
The Philips 49B2U6903CH will soon be available for 1,339 euros.
