A super-small Planck SSD is launching, specifically designed for storage-hungry smartphones. In the form factor of a typical memory stick, but with the USB-C connector centrally located instead of at the end, it offers a capacity of 1 or 2TB with read and write speeds of 1050 MBps. This makes it a compact expansion for compatible smartphones and supports, for example, recording Apple ProRes 4K/120p on the iPhone 16 Pro. ![]() Planck Mini-SSD The manufacturer of the built-in storage is not specified; however, the design of the mini-SSD is said to focus on effective heat dissipation. To prevent overheating, heat is conducted via two thermal pads to an aluminum side as a heatsink. Planck is also said to be splash and dustproof (except at the USB port), and drops from up to 3m should not cause damage.
![]() ![]() The 10g light Planck SSD should generally be usable with any USB-C-enabled device, although the design is particularly adapted to smartphones, where it fits almost seamlessly against the housing – on a laptop, adjacent ports may be obscured. An additionally available PlanckBank Hub can accommodate two Planck SSDs and also has an HDMI port. ![]() The Planck SSD was already shown at CES and can be pre-ordered at reduced prices on Kickstarter; the 1TB version is offered for , 2TB costs . They will later cost (1TB) and (2TB) in regular retail. Such pre-financing, however, comes with the usual risks – delivery to backers is never guaranteed. Manufacturer Shiftcam has, as far as we can see, successfully completed several crowdfunding projects, such as ![]() Only slightly larger than Planck is the external SSD XS2000 from Kingston, which, however, is connected via cable. ![]() deutsche Version dieser Seite: Planck 1TB / 2TB - kleinste SSD für Smartphone-Filmer? |
