UltraSharp UP3218K is the first 8K monitor on the market - it was announced at CES 2017, but it is only recently available and the 8K Philips 328P8K is still a long time coming. Now there are the first tests, which already starting from approximately
3,200 euro to have examined monitor more near.
The UltraSharp UP3218K is 32" in size, uses an IPS panel and has a resolution of 8K (7,680 x 4,320 pixels) monitor with 33.2 megapixels and an incredible pixel density of 280ppi at a maximum brightness of 400 cd/m². It covers the AdobeRGB, Rec.709 and sRGB color space to 100%, the DCI-P3 to 98% and Rec.2020 to over 80%.
It is therefore also suitable for professional work, whether with 4K (it can then display two 4K videos side by side in native resolution including timeline), 5K, 6K or 8K video. A current high-end graphics card such as the Nvidia GTX1070/GTX1080, Quadro P4000 or a Radeon RX Vega 56 is required to display 8K at 60Hz using two DisplayPort 1.4 connectors.
In the test of
Heises CT a disadvantage of the high resolution is mentioned: the normal (Windows) menus must be enlarged (as already for 4K) by 300% at 8K, by 150% at 4K), since otherwise normal font is no longer recognizable. The image quality is very good: the IPS panel is high in color and contrast, the DCI-P3 color space is actually covered to 99% - unfortunately the monitor does not support hardware calibration. The biggest point of criticism concerns the reflective display.
