With the AF 35-150mm F2-2.8 L, Samyang presents its first lens for the L-mount system. The lens is characterised by a maximum aperture of F2 in the wide-angle and F2.8 in the telephoto range and thus covers five relevant fixed focal lengths at the same time (35/50/85/135/150). Thanks to the optical design with special lenses for 12 of the 21 elements (in 18 groups), the lens is said to offer outstanding optical performance across the entire zoom range from wide-angle to telephoto on cameras with an L-mount. In addition, UMC (Ultra Multi-Coating) technology is used to minimise flare and ghosting, contributing to natural and clear images.
The maximum aperture of F2.0-2.8 of the lens can provide an attractive background blur. The 9 aperture blades are designed to create a soft and natural bokeh. The closest focusing distance is 33 cm in the wide-angle range and 85 cm in the telephoto range.
The Samyang AF 35-150mm F2.0-F2.8 L - for L-Mount
The Samyang AF 35-150mm F2.0-F2.8 L has a rubberised focus ring with micro pattern, a Hidden Red Ring and a matt surface that is comfortable to use. A locking switch on the housing of the lens can hold the zoom position and protects against unintentional changes in focal length.
The possible button assignments also sound unusually interesting. Using the custom switch in AF mode on MODE 2, the focussing ring can be used as an aperture ring. And switching to MODE 3 enables a special video function called ‘Dolly Shot’ in MF mode, which is intended to enable virtual camera movements. Something similar also appears to be possible manually using the ‘Digital Par-Focal’ function: this means that the focus remains the same while zooming, which means that the focal length can be changed during a video recording without having to refocus. There are also two focus hold buttons on the side, which can be used as focus hold buttons in AF mode and as focus lock buttons in MF mode.
