It had become a bit quieter lately around the XEEN full frame Cine lens series from Samynag. At the IBC, Samyang is now launching a new, more compact and also lighter Cine lens series with manual full-frame fixed focal lengths with a powerful T1.5. ;)
The abbreviation "CF" stands for Carbon Fibre and describes the lens cylinder made of carbon fibre in which the glass lenses are housed - the housing itself is made of aluminium. From 07. October the 24 mm, 50 mm and 85 mm will be T1.5´verfügbar. In 2020 the 16 mm T2.6 and 35 mm T1.5 will be added. ;) In addition to the carbon fiber cylinder, Samyang has built the new XEEN CF series from much more compact than the previous XEEN series. The front diameter is now 95mm instead of 114mm and the length is now only 90.5mm (PL version). The weight of the new XEEN CF has also been reduced by around 20-30% compared to the previous series and is now between 0.9 and 1.1 kg. ;) ARRI PL, Canon EF and Sony E-Mount versions are available on mounts. There doesn&t seem to be an interchangeable mount option (as the original XEENs at least thought about) for the XEEN CF. We at the previous XEENs have the XEEN CF with 11 aperture blades, a focus rotation angle of 200° and an aperture rotation angle of 40°. All gear rims are located at the same point on the lens tube to make lens changes as easy as possible on the set. When it comes to image quality/appearance, Samyang remarkably points out two different image qualities in the XEEN CF: from T1.5 to 2.8 there is talk of a "creamy" vintage look and 2.8 of sharp, sober precision. Probably a rogue who just thinks of lower image quality when the aperture is wide open. VY=-1EsiSpNpAk It&s also a pity that Samyang only makes the promotional videos of the new XEEN CF series available in HD and not in 4K (although the XEEN XF should be able to handle solutions up to 8K and was probably shot with powerful 4K capable cameras RED, Sony Venice).
