Sigma has just introduced a fast 85mm fixed focal length portrait lens in its Art series, which has been specially redesigned for mirrorless full format cameras. The 85mm F1.4 DG DN | Art will be available with L-Mount as well as with Sony E-Mount and is with 630g and its 94.1mm length (L-Mount) much more compact than the older 85mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art version for DSLRs. The diameter is 82.8mm.

The optical design comprises 15 elements in 11 groups, including HR, SLD and an aspherical lens. The compact design is achieved, among other things, by Sigma taking advantage of the distortion and vignetting correction that modern mirrorless cameras offer on the software side, which Sigma CEO says works very well. Other imaging errors such as as astigmatism, curvature of the field of view, etc., on the other hand, should already be minimized as far as possible by the optical design. As always, a multiple coating should reduce ghosting and reflections.
As with the 35mm F1.2 DG DN | Art the aperture ring can be unlocked with a switch or alternatively locked in position with the Lock Switch or its range can be restricted to a defined area. The aperture shutter should be comparatively large to ensure optimum picture quality and consists of 11 fins.
The AF system uses a stepper motor that is optimized for both phase AF and contrast AF.
The Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN | Art will cost 1,099 Euro and will be available from 27 August.
