Sony continues to expand its lens portfolio with a 600mm f4 fixed focal length that should be of particular interest to sports, press and animal photographers / film makers. At 3,040 grams, it is said to be the lightest 600mm lens in its class, for which a magnetized coating using carbon fibers may be responsible. ;)
Together with the Sony Alpha 9, up to 20 fps should be possible with continuous AF calculation. In the new Sony 600 mm F4 GM OSS super telephoto lens (SEL-600F40GM), two XD linear motors are working, which should provide particularly fast and quiet focus operations. In addition, the Sony 600 mm F4 GM OSS features optical image stabilization with 3 modes, an aperture of 11 lamellas and accepts 40.5 mm size filters. Also new Sony has introduced the Super Tele-Zoom 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS (SEL-200600G). ;) Thanks to the internal zoom mechanism, the 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS does not change its length when zooming. In contrast to the 600mm F4 Super-Tele, the 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS accommodates a focusing motor (DDSSM (Direct Drive Super Sonic Wave Motor) focusing system), but also features 3 modes of image stabilization and an 11-blade aperture. The filter diameter is 93mm.
