Sony continues to expand its lens portfolio with a 600mm f4 fixed focal length that should be of particular interest to sports, press and animal photographers / film makers. At 3,040 grams, it is said to be the lightest 600mm lens in its class, for which a magnetized coating using carbon fibers may be responsible. Together with the Sony Alpha 9, up to 20 fps should be possible with continuous AF calculation. In the new Sony 600 mm F4 GM OSS super telephoto lens (SEL-600F40GM), two XD linear motors are working, which should provide particularly fast and quiet focus operations. In addition, the Sony 600 mm F4 GM OSS features optical image stabilization with 3 modes, an aperture of 11 lamellas and accepts 40.5 mm size filters. Also new Sony has introduced the Super Tele-Zoom 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS (SEL-200600G). Thanks to the internal zoom mechanism, the 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS does not change its length when zooming. In contrast to the 600mm F4 Super-Tele, the 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS accommodates a focusing motor (DDSSM (Direct Drive Super Sonic Wave Motor) focusing system), but also features 3 modes of image stabilization and an 11-blade aperture. The filter diameter is 93mm.
