Sony introduces the CBK-FS7BK, an ENG Style Build-up Kit for the Sony FS/7/FS7II cameras that transforms the FS7 into an ENG broadcast camera with three key components: 1. an Extension Unit for Wireless Audio and Network News Productions 2. an ENG Viewfinder with Cheesplate 3. a new shoulder rest with extended shifting range for optimal weight launch on the shoulder from B4 to E-Mount lenses.
Here&s our first quick video interview of the NAB we did with Claus Pfeifer from Sony right after the Sony press conference: Thanks to Claus Pfeifer, who (despite Jet-Lag) answered our questions bravely:
The extension unit offers a 2-channel wireless audio slot-in receiver similar to other ENG shoulder cameras (third-party only 1-channel), streaming and file transfer functions via WLAN or 4G/LTE, QoS streaming with dual link connection (requires XDCAM Air license), genlock/time code and raw output as well as compatibility with Sony BP-GL and BP-FL batteries. The Viewfinder is known from other Sony ENG shoulder cameras.
Not so much is known about the new shoulder plate, except that it has a larger range for optimal buoyancy and can currently only be adjusted using a tool. How good the new shoulder baseplate from Sony has actually become will probably be shown by the first Hands. On, which we are already quite excited about.
At the NAB we had the FS7 with the new ENG Built Up Kit briefly on the shoulder incl. B4 mount and optics and found the setup well tared on the shoulder. Sony gave the weight of the test sample on request with approx. 8Kg incl. the B4 optics.
The Sony CBK-FS7BK ENG Style Build-Up Kit will be available from December 2019 at a list price of 6.500,- Euro and the B4 Adapter for 5.000,- Euro.
