At IBC, Sony will show the new VENICE Extension System 2, which allows the image sensor block to be detached from the camera body and used in wired minimal setup, ideal for shooting in tight shooting environments or mobile scenarios. The updated version of the original VENICE extension system features increased bandwidth to support the VENICE 2 with 8K sensor, twice the cable length (up to 12m) without a repeater box, additional control buttons, and an integrated gyro sensor. (The original VENICE extension system could achieve a maximum extension of 5.5 m between camera head and housing). VENICE extension system 2 The new extension system is fully compatible with the VENICE 2 with 8K or 6K sensors, but also supports the original VENICE camera with extended cable length of 12m. It also features HD-SDI output and 24 V output to power accessories such as lens servo motors and surveillance accessories. Multiple screw holes on all surfaces make it easy to attach additional accessories and adapt to a variety of rigs, while the main camera weight can be carried elsewhere. While no bubble level (gyroscope sensor) could be used when shooting with the original extension system, the new CBK-3620XS is equipped with a sensor on the side of the camera head that detects horizontal and vertical tilts. This allows the use of a spirit level as well as a graphical display of the spirit level on the camera&s main monitor, even when shooting with the CBK-3620XS (Requires VENICE 2 with the latest firmware). Camera head tilt information can be checked when shooting at different head and tilt angles - ideal for VFX applications. Horizontal and vertical tilt is also recorded in the metadata and output via the camera&s SDI interface. For additional functionality, the Extension System 2 has four assignable buttons that can be assigned to functions such as ND filter, REC start/stop, etc. The new extension is also compatible with the original VENICE, provided it has firmware V6.3 or higher. However, due to the given functionality of the camera, some functions of the CBK-3620XS are not available - the VENICE does not support bubble level display and recording in metadata, and there is only one assignable button instead of four. However, the VENICE fully benefits from the longer cable length. The new VENICE extension system 2 will be available in early 2023 for about 18,500 euros.
