The updated UWP-D wireless microphone system is aimed primarily at Sony´s XDCAM PXW Z280 and Z190 camcorders, the first to support the new UWP-D radio link. The UWP-D will be connected to the camcorder via Muti Interface (MI) Shoe as usual and brings some improvements compared to the previous UWP-D.
The sync between receiver and receiver should now be less complicated via NFC sync. By simply holding the NFC SYNC button on the receiver for a few seconds, the corresponding frequency is automatically scanned. Then the receiver only has to be connected to the transmitter. In addition, the body pack transmitter has been reduced in size by 20% and the MI-Shoe receiver design has been significantly shortened.
The new MI accessory shoe adapter SMAD-P5 allows the transmission of audio signals without cable connection from the radio receiver to a connected camera. Energy management is also standardized: the wireless receiver can receive power from the camera, while the camera synchronizes switching on and off with the receiver. The SMAD-P5 is compatible with selected Sony camera models that feature an MI accessory shoe with analog audio interface.
The Sony UWP-D radio link will be available from summer 2019 in the following sets (at prices not yet quoted):
UWP-D21: Portable receiver URX-P40 and bodypack transmitter UTX-B40
UWP-D22: URX-P40 Portable Receiver and UTX-M40 Portable Wireless Microphone
