Sony shows reference flagship 4K HDR monitor BVM-HX3110 - 4,000 nits peak

[18:11 Fri,14.April 2023   by Rudi Schmidts]

The new TRIMASTER HX BVM-HX3110 reference monitor is being promoted by Sony as a 4K reference monitor - and the technical specifications sound impressive. Thanks to a completely newly developed panel, the monitor is said to set new standards in dynamic range and pixel response time.

The BVM-HX3110 consists of a Sony-developed, anti-glare 30.5-inch HDR dual-layer LCD panel with native DCI 4K resolution (4096 x 2160 pixels) and a maximum of 120Hz. Sony specifies the peak luminance with up to 4,000 nits. There is also an optional mode for an especially fast pixel response to minimize motion blur.

The monitor&s new standard toolset includes Waveform Monitor / Vector Scope (WF/VS), false color, focus assist, subtitles, 3D LUT processing, and quad and side-by-side viewing modes with various picture profiles.

Of particular interest, in addition to the 12G SDI inputs, is the direct integration of an Ethernet/IP interface (SFP28(x2), 25G BASE), which can eliminate the need for SDI conversion for connection. This provides IP support for ST2110-20/21/22/30/40, NMOS IS04/IS05, clean switch, hitless failover and PTP.

A web menu makes it easy to configure the IP interface. Additional licenses can also be added or further tools can be unlocked via this. The following licenses have already been announced:

BVML-F10: Fast response license
BVML-H10: Output license for HDR-SDR conversion
BVML-S10: license for signal conversion
BVML-T10: 3D LUT output license
BVML-JD10: JPEG XS decoder license
BVML-SN10: SNMP license

A prototype of the BVM-HX3110 will be on display at Sony&s booth, No. C8101, April 16-19 at NAB Show 2023 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The product is scheduled to launch in November 2023.
