Sound Devices has introduced the portable professional mixer/recorder 888, a new model of its Series 8, which is located between the 32-channel Scorpio with 16 mic preamps and the 8-channel 833 with 6 mic preamps in terms of size, inputs and outputs. It offers 8 very low-noise microphone preamps, 16 channels, 20 tracks, various power supply methods and support for various USB control interfaces for remote faders and transport control via MCU as well as support for sending and receiving audio via Ethernet via Dante for all 16 channels. Sound Devices 888 All Sound Devices 8 Series mixer recorders feature special trim and fader controls, dedicated returns and coms, an internal timecode generator, AES in/out, 2 SD card slots, an internal 256 GB SSD, two L-mount batteries for operation and charging, and an updated audio architecture with multiple FPGAs. This architecture allows the mixer recorders to be fully routable: Any physical input can be sent to any track, bus or output. Dugan Automixing and Sound Devices& own MixAssist is also integrated into the 8-series mixer recorders. Both algorithms automatically attenuate unused microphones in multi-microphone applications and provide an additional tool for professional users. The 888 can record to three media (SSD plus two SD cards) simultaneously. An integrated three-band EQ can be set to either pre- or post-fade for each channel. Sound Devices 888 from front, left and right The 888 can also be controlled via the free Wingman app for iOS and Androi, which allows remote access to the most important functions. Sound Devices has been supplying the 888 portable production mixer recorder since 30.10.19 at a price of around 8,300 euros.
