With the new 90mm F/2.8 Di III MACRO VXD, Tamron is presenting the latest generation of a lens that has been on the market for 45 years and has been repeatedly updated during this time. The latest version of the compact macro lens in the medium telephoto range has now been designed specifically for mirrorless full-frame cameras for the first time and will be available with Sony E-mount and Nikon Z-mount.
Tamron 90mm F/2.8 Di III MACRO VXD for Sony-E
The 90mm F2.8 Macro combines a high resolution with an appealing bokeh; 12 aperture blades are installed here (a first for Tamron), and a new blade design is also intended to create 12 rays for starburst effects when stopped down.
The lens has 15 elements in 12 groups, including four LD lens elements that correct spherical and chromatic aberrations. A BBAR-G2 coating is intended to minimize ghost images and stray light and ensure clear details even in backlighting.
The maximum magnification is 1:1 and the closest focusing distance is 23 cm. Although the lens is predestined for macro, landscape and portrait photography, it also features optical flat-field correction for flat subjects such as documents, works of art or product packaging, according to the manufacturer. This should ensure optimum sharpness from edge to edge as well as uniform illumination over the entire image area with minimal distortion.
A fast and, according to Tamron, high-precision AF is also supposed to offer subject tracking; whether it works quietly is not mentioned. A focus limiter can be set via a switch. The maximum diameter of the lens measures 79.2mm, the length 126.5mm. It weighs 630g or 640g depending on the bayonet.
A new lens hood is supplied with the 90mm F2.8 MACRO, which has a small sliding window. If variable PL, ND or cross-screen filters are used, the respective effect can be adjusted by rotating the filter without having to remove the lens hood.
The Tamron 90mm F/2.8 Di III MACRO VXD will be available from 24.10.2024 for 699 euros.
