After it was announced in spring that Canon was opening up its RF mount to third-party manufacturers, corresponding AF lenses are gradually coming onto the market - but only for APS-C, as Canon is still keeping the protocol for full-frame under wraps. Since this summer, two contemporary zoom lenses from Sigma have been available for the Canon RF mount, in December and January followed by a total of 4 fixed focal lengths. Now the zoom lens from Tamron announced for RF will also be released shortly.
The 11-20mm F/2.8 Di III-A1 RXD offers a continuous maximum aperture of F/2.8 and a compact and lightweight design with a length of 84.2mm and a weight of 340g. The focal length range of the ultra-wide-angle zoom lens for mirrorless APS-C cameras corresponds to Kb-equivalent 17.6-32mm.
Tamron 11-20mm F/2.8 for RF
The optical construction consists of 12 elements in 10 groups, including two GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lens elements to ensure high resolution across the entire field of view. The lens also contains one XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) and two LD (Low Dispersion) lens elements, which are designed to suppress aberrations. According to Tamron, the BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2) coating reduces ghosting and flare. The aperture consists of 7 blades.
Wide-angle macro shots are possible at 11mm with a minimum object distance (MOD) of 0.15m and a maximum magnification of 1:4. The lens has an RXD (Rapid-eXtra-silent stepping Drive) autofocus system, which is said to work quietly and enable precise focusing for both photos and videos.
With a moisture-resistant construction, fluorine coating and other features, the lens is perfect for outdoor use.
The lens has a moisture-resistant design and a fluorine coating. The lens can be updated to the latest firmware via a connection port using the TAMRON Lens Utility software.
The Tamron 11-20mm F/2.8 Di III-A1 RXD (model B060) will be available for 769 euros from December 12, 2024.
