The seamless integration of electronic Volt technology for real-time position stabilization is one of the greatest innovations of the Steadicam M-2, which will soon be presented at CineGear. Since 2017, Volt has been available as an optional addition to the M1, for example, in order to obtain automatic stabilization assistance controlled by a motor unit, for example to maintain desired position angles or to compensate for unwanted tilting movements of the camera. A good description of the functionality can be found here.
Steadicam M-2
The Volt Assist control unit has been integrated directly into the camera stage. The M-2 is equipped with a new Volt-ready gimbal and a new, lighter base unit, which is optionally equipped with a Gold Mount or V-Lock battery plate and an optional hot-swappable battery mount. Overall, the Steadicam M-2 should be even more modular than the M-1 and can therefore be configured flexibly according to requirements. The carbon fiber frame is available in different thicknesses and lengths. The monitor mount with quick-release fastener has also been reworked.
According to Tiffen, the system should be both lighter and somewhat cheaper than before; concrete prices are not mentioned. Delivery is expected to start in summer.
