Upcoming Apple Mac Minis with M4 said to be even smaller

The Apple Mac Mini M2 performs surprisingly well in terms of video editing - mainly under Resolve, even if it is of course too limited for professional editing. According to the usually well-informed Mark Gurman, the next version of the entry-level Mac will be launched later this year with the M4 and M4 Pro and will be even smaller than before - it will be about the same size as the Apple TV box.

Apple first installed the M4 SoC in the current iPad Pro, which was released in May - the chip is based on 3 nanometer technology. Its new CPU offers up to four performance cores and six efficiency cores, as well as accelerators for machine learning (ML).

In our test of the iPad Pro M4s, the export to YouTube was over 20% faster than with the iPad Pro M2 and over 30% faster than with the MacBook Air with M3; however, we could feel less of this speed increase in the editing performance.

The upcoming Mac Mini will apparently be like an iPad Pro in a small box and will have several USB-C ports and an HDMI port. According to Gurman, two versions will be released as usual, one with the normal M4 chip and one with the M4 Pro. Next year, other Apple devices such as MacBooks and Mac Pro will also be equipped with the M4 chip.
