ZDF will broadcast the new, meanwhile ninth season of the series "Die Bergretter", which has been produced jointly by ZDF and ORF since 2009, for the first time on German FreeTV via HbbTV in 4K UltraHD (3,840 x 2,160) and HDR. The UHD HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) HDR versions of the first six episodes will be transmitted via the network via HbbTV via the ZDF media library from November 9,2017 and can be watched on Hbbb-TV/Smart TVs with HDR/HLG capability and enhanced colour dynamics.
On devices without HDR, the consequences are also displayed without problems in the normal (SDR) color space thanks to HLG. According to Golem, each episode is streamed via H. 265/HEVC via HbbTV at a fixed bit rate of 4.5 MBit/s (including sound). "The Bergretter" is produced by the new German film company and shot with RED Epic/Scarlet cameras - location is Ramsau am Dachsteingebirge and surroundings.
As early as 2016, ZDF offered the first in-house production in UHD and HDR via HbbTV with the "Terra X"documentary "Mythos Wolfskind" - now, after the "mountain rescue", the upcoming season of "Der Bergdoktor" will be produced in ultra HD resolution and HDR quality and made available via media library.
