Zoom Q8n-4K video camera with professional audio features ships

About 1 1/2 months after the announcement, the Q8n-4K camera from Japanese audio specialist Zoom, which is aimed entirely at professional audio, is now shipping.

The successor of the already 6 years ago released
Zoom Q8 camera and big brother of the Zoom Q4n-4k can record up to four audio tracks simultaneously via two external XLR inputs (up to 24bit/96kHz). In addition, videos can now be recorded internally in 4K at 30 fps or 1080p/720p at up to 60 frames persecond in MPEG-4 AVC/ H.264 format to up to 512GB microSD/SDHC/SDXC cards. In 4K, up to 30 frames per second are possible.

Zoom Q8n-4K

A 1/2.3″ CMOS sensor with 16 megapixels is installed, which is equipped with an F2.8 lens with a fixed focal length. Zoom doesn&t communicate an exact value, but mentions a 150° wide-angle range, which mostly already corresponds to a fisheye lens. Via a USB connection, Q8n-4K can also be used as a webcam, but then it is limited to FullHD/1080p video and 48 kHz/16-bit audio.

The camera has an LCD monitor on the back that can be rotated 180° for selfie shots. Like its predecessor, the Zoom Q8n-4K supports interchangeable microphone capsules as a unique selling point. New is a v2.0 generation microphone capsule that can be used with a variety of other standard microphone capsules, including shotgun microphones, XY / AB microphones and VR microphones. Included with the XYQ-8 is a 120° XY stereo microphone. There are also five built-in audio effects that can improve recording quality, including limiter, compressor, leveler, DeEsser and NoiseGate.

The device is said to weigh 367 grams including the battery and can record 4K videos for up to 80 minutes without recharging. The camera can also be controlled remotely via a control app (iOS/Android) using a separately available Bluetooth adapter (BTA-1).
