Frage von MiXMaster:Hi All,
I want to banish my Hi8 collection to DVD. Although my TV card supports 720x576 pixels with 25 frames / sec, I'm not satisfied with the quality. The picture is slightly blurred and panning the camera is extremely jerky.
OK, the link "(c) Why do not capture card using graphics card, TV, or ...?" I naturally found synonymous pointing to "special Hi8.
To obtain a better quality, I wonder if I put a Canopus ADVC-55 or a standalone DVD recorder increase. The latter is more expensive, but synonymous universally applicable.
And now the questions:
If I have the info here in the forum understood all that is Resolutionund frame rate but these solutions are identical with my TV card. What then is concluded the better quality?
Can the DVD recorder to record the data with a variable bit rate? (Probably not) and thus we must accept a significant loss of quality?
Is it still possible through the mpeg encoding the recorder of processing the material, without which the quality suffers all too much?
What is preferable, ADVC-55 (I guess better ways of processing)
or DVD recorder? (easier handling)
How big is the difference in quality?
Thanks for the answers

You want to pull your Hi8 collection to DVD.
Very nice.
It will probably be synonymous for the last time that you touched the Video Library and import, right?
Is the data worth it, (a post and be subject to significant time related) to?
If so, then using ADVC from DV and convert postprocess on the PC. As a final step, MPEG2 and DVD.
If not, and the DVD recorder it hergibt to save to DVD. But then all the possibilities of a post only with quality losses are feasible.
Note: DV for editing, MPEG2 for DVD for archiving.
Let's costs to:
Good DVD recorders cost about 500 Euronen, possibly more. Record, burn, done.
Canopus costs around 160 euros, Virtual Dub for cutting and finishing with filters for the price of the download. A PC with DVD Burner now time required.
When training time is not important, then the Canopus solution.

Hello again, I am the "guest" of the top,
Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, these statements confuse me. On one page the method using ADVC DV is certainly changing in the best stand on the other statements on Page, but very good quality of the DVD recorder.
Since I am the videos except perhaps a cut in front and rear do not want to edit next, is really just the quality of the finished DVD of importance.
@ Mark
on this thread, I'm on my quest synonymous already stumbled. I was raised only the question of how a DVD recorder riff in real time variable bit rate, which creates the software but only in 2-pass procedure. (Or am I mistaken here?)

Have I correctly understood you? If the video material shall not be dealt with next, then the DVD recorder is the better choice (It is easier to operate, as well, just more expensive) Yes, that you can let it stand.
Are they all DVD recorder of the quality of equal value? Certainly not. Like everywhere there are good products for good money or cheap products with corresponding properties. Not for nothing I called Panasonic. With these DVD recorders I've had good experiences so far and can therefore recommend the device. ;-)
Moreover, in addition to Panasonic's DVD-R and DVD-RW, DVD-RAM on synonymous to draw what is regarding the durability of decisive advantage.
