S.Ende If you only want to save individual frames, is an unnecessary detour MPEG2 (temporally and qualitatively). Then, I would prefer to search for a software which directly converts AVCHD in frames. Computational speed is no preference for this - if you have the necessary patience.
I try on my Athlon 3500 + (2 GB RAM, Win XP) with straight and its Neo Edius HQ codec around (on eBay just 59 euros including postage).
Although I had previously only a series of shorter snippets AVCHD to try, but apparently the average synonymous running on my calculator so fairly quickly - as long as the used hard drive size and fast enough (the HQ codec works as one frame and comes with little processing power from but he makes the AVCHD footage by about the factor of 7 larger).
With Edius Neo is synonymous frames or entire sequences in numbered BMPs spend. Insofar synonymous, it would be interesting for your purpose.
For the output of individual images you have to the material not previously umcodieren, but could it directly as a AVCHD on the timeline set, of course, plays it of your calculator is not or only with long pauses, but it does not matter. The main thing you'll get the images are exported.
PS: If you purchase the camera before you want to debug software, make it just like me: I have

Good evening beiti
The proposed test of you has worked fine. Obviously, the AVCHD movie on my PC does not play smoothly, but yet I can easily copy frames individually.
The descriptions / pictures of the Canon HF100 is very interesting for me because I just this camcorder has an eye.
Thank you very much for your advice and the informative material!
