The disk prices today is now worth archiving on hard drive.
At a current 500GB disk fit about 40 MiniDV Tapes for price of under 150 euros.
If the shots are important, of course, recommend the redundant storage of at least 2 hard disks.
Very important: To record an archive on the PC has nothing to do! Tapes Capture, then write to disk and then get out of the PC with the disk. This is the only way they are safe from viruses and software or user errors safely.

You have to anyway capturing all the tapes if you want something to do with it s.PC. For me it is so that I each tape after the capture off again on tape and at the same time ext. Plate moves. Afterwards, I will make the DVD of it, therefore, of the overhead is only transferred to the plate and it works with USB 2.0 pretty quickly.

As far as relating to hard drive. Therefore, as above probably synonymous something of redundancy. Important data only on a single hard drive to store is of course highly negligent.

/ E The advantage of redundant storage: if you abschmaucht your hard drive, then you still have the tape. And vice versa. So to speak, the backup copy.
