I write to me simply a text file with the same name and is good about it.

With Adobe Photoshop Lightroom (or Aperture Apple counterpart) is a media file tags and keywords and then assign. As AVIs does not bear EXIF data (like image files), the additional information that is stored in a database. Whether you with a manual method (as described above) or doing a program like Lightroom can create order, is finally one taste or budget issue.

True, and a text file can be any system synonymous nor read in a few years and I'm in no additional tool dependent.
