I use active, eg a autocom of Behringer (is ok) and one Ultrafex 1 (very nice for stereoenhancing) and synonymous an Ultra Curve (with equalizer). Ultimately, one should the term "smoochy" again closer to defining :-)
Possibly a higher-quality multi-effects device would be more appropriate.
This should be synonymous include a compressor. Depending on where you live, I think a visit to good time music dealers are useful.
