Permanent Mount problems both Firewire as synonymous via USB. The plate itself unhesitatingly potters for two years in my Mac Pro.
The problem is that with Firewire drives are very expensive in Comparison. Maybe because it's only for archiving, is way slower than the USB go here and look again:

Well ... sooooo much slower USB in Comparison now synonymous not to Firewire. Most of the slow transfer is via USB s.im Calculator built controller. The AMD chipset (such as the 790er) creates on some boards as only 10 to 15 MB (with expansion cards, it then runs with 30) - but AMD is not sitting so the Mac.

Basically you can take as good as anything sold on the market - some swear by Western Digital (I) others on Samsung, Maxtor and others again, so can you with all the hard disks have bad luck - but may be synonymous, that the best things of Ebay (for example, those of Popp-PC) to last longer branded.
If you want to have at least some data security, you should buy you external drives of different manufacturers. So you reduce the risk of failure which could result from manufacturing defects (eg for units with a "close"'s serial number).
But otherwise:
