Hello folks!
I'm playing with the idea myself a Canon XH A1 to buy. When you format a bit, I would initially remain flexible and between DV and HDV Recording Studio can choose.
The main reason is my current hardware and software equipment for the more normal DV interface is suitable. After sometime, the hardware goes, I will then cut HDV.
The question is what quality the recording in DV mode? Are they with the quality of the XM2 to compare?

The XH-A1 is not a DV Camera, it may be, but it is not their specialty.
But you can record in HDV and then down convert the Camera. So you can later even the same material cut into HD as soon as you have the hardware.

How is because the XH-A1 to know which part of the 16 / 9 of the image is crucial?
That apart, the difference between automatic and Letterbox Pan & Scan (left and right is simply what truncated) a thing of the zoom. Most Television have a zoom function.

Wanted is a 4:3 in fullscreen without black bars above and below. Left and right simply cut off.
And not all have a television zoom function. Older tube devices originate from the time where there was still no 16:9.

There is no problem if you record in DV mode. Diesr mode 16:9 and 4:3 offered. I have pictures of the XH A1 in the DV mode with 4:3 mixed DVCPro 400 Ajd my recordings and if you do not see any optical difference.

How do you (or someone else or synonymous) the quality of the A1 in the DV mode - that is recording as DV-AVI 4:3. Do you, for example, the quality is comparable with XM2 recordings? How is the light sensitivity - compared with the XM2 or VX2100?
I am not runterkonvertierte HD recordings, but explicit pictures in the DV mode.
