Hi,
what you want really? The contents of your DV-tapes "permanently" or save it to DVD?
The DVD is probably not a true archival medium. DVDs are aging faster and unfortunately in our experience as a DV tape. Moreover, the quality of the mpeg files smaller than that of the tapes, but for Ott-normal consumers in the television hardly seen worse.
The DVD is of course the more common and playback media for the "look at just" synonymous better than a tape. It would just be more practical. Therefore, the dubbing to DVD makes perfect sense, but probably not as an archive solution.
To archive digitization in a little or uncompressed AVI format and the storage would be useful to drive hard. Of these, then make a backup copy and data copy on a regular basis (every 24 months fire up) times and, if necessary.
So the DV tape is already a good archiving solution. For better handling we could transfer them to DVD and storing the tapes.
