(hopefully I am in the right forum)
I have - from days gone by - still AVIs (DVcodec with 25 MBit), which with a Pinnacle DV500 from analogue Hi8 tape were captured, and - in recent times - from your camcorder via Firewire to PC recordings played, also in DV format .
Windows mplayer can not play as expected - ie codec sought (and found): for a network in the old Panasonic kursierende part (pdvcodec), on the other hand, the tryout of MainConcept. Both installed and tested. Result: Both codecs can I use the more recent recordings (via the Firewire of a digital camera to the PC through play) in mplayer anschauen. But in the old (by DV500 gecaptureten) recordings break with both codecs from mplayer error below.
Interestingly VirtualDubMod (in v1.5.10.2) codecs synonymous with both the old AVIs play.
The FourCC for both variants (lt VirtDub) the same, namely DVSD.
Someone an idea where the differences are?

I have for years worked with the DV500 and the problem can not understand. Is produced in each case. Avi file and of course as a DV encoded. The player can play, even Microsoft's Media Player ... unless you've finished the Kunstück brought in without a codec's to install .-))!? How was the synonymous, if you just player, then try `s with the times you can really Mediaplayer11 of REAL up about MPEG MOV DV to really play! If Microsoft is not the first choice as .-)??!, wär `s with the VLC open source? Otherwise, the whole times in Premiere Invite u.ggf. more than once. avi (DV) re-export.

Addendum: Of course, creates the Pinnacle DV500 synonymous a PinnacleDV.avi file (if you capture in advance when not otherwise defined ... MicrosoftDV.avi). The codec used there, however, is fully compatible with all these players and should not pose any problems.
