I have the old with USB Drobo and Drobo Share. In my opinion, the Drobo is too slow for DV editing (of course synonymous depends on data rates with which you work). The USB version creates for me about 20 MB / s, which is not particularly fast. I do not quite synonymous, why the Drobo via USB s.Drobo Share is connected. This is the Drobo but a very good archive, the data are really very safe. The exchange is working really hard, just as in the demo video is shown. Problems there has been no, but the speed is already at a disadvantage. The new Drobo with Firewire 800 is perhaps a bit faster, but I have not personally tested. Oh, and he is quite loud.

The Drobo is now synonymous with Firewire. Then it is not too bad.
