Hello,
I have the following problem:
I have the camcorder of Panasonic NV GS 180 with Mini-DV tape. This camcorder has to dub FireWire 400 (1394a), a USB 2.0 port and an S-video output. I want to buy me a new notebook now. Most notebooks do not have a FireWire port. So my question: Are there any big differences when dubbing between FireWire and USB 2.0? 've Read several times that there are no major differences, however, FireWire is a little faster. Does it make sense to buy a notebook with an ExpressCard slot? There are as Express Card with FireWire ports.
What did you think. I want me a notebook with an ExpressCard slot, or enough to buy one with a USB 2.0 connection to dub the films.
It would be class if you can help me?

Mini DV over Firewire can only be properly dub.
You purchase a Firewire card for the lap if this has no Firewire.
This is synonymous for BackUps then intressant concerning whether removable disks and transfer rates.

Basically, as has DeKid law, but there were a few Panasonic MiniDV camcorder, which had USB 2.0 in the fastest version (high speed) and could transfer the video data via USB as well as over Firewire (although probably only using the supplied software for the Camera ). Whether it goes with the GS180, I can not say, but may return the evidence of such instructions.

Hello,
The GS180 is in fact one of the few cameras that could synonymous transferred via USB in full quality. This method is not standardized, however, and you're relying on proprietary software, and you might manage 100 more problems.
So my advice: Do not do it, invest the few dollars and to equip the notebook with Firewire! And that's to be THE standard method.
