The cable has to fit, otherwise no preference.

New Calculator synonymous have a FireWire 800 port. The faster data transmission has ne. Good for harddisks but for the installation of the camera ungeignet.

As Wolfgang said, the only difference between the "big" 6-pin connector and the small 4-pin only lies in the fact that in the "small" power supply is missing. So you could s.die "big" as an external FireWire hard drive without their own power source ... For (H) DV Camera is no preference, the main thing is that the cable fits.
