My opinion: If the election stands, I would have for Firewire. That is, in practice, safer and much faster than USB.

There are synonymous 10'000umin sata disks. But just sata and not ide. But who buys today are still IDE drives? Well, I certainly do not. If the motherboard has sata on it you just need a slot-aperture for the rear and no additional cards. For notebook brauchts maybe a PCMCIA or PC Express card.

But at least firewire2 (3.5inch disks brings in about 40% more)

Clearly firewire2. I had just to see if I missed something there is. Firewire-800 is apparently the popular term for what you mean. There is still synonymous with Firewire protocols data rates in the four-digit range.
