Exaggerating but it is not, otherwise it sounds unnatural. Choose a "clean" noise without other extraneous noises. If the sound with automatic audio control is included, the noise quality is not as good as possible with a manual (here constant) Audio Control (reason = constant noise).
To levels: Would a compressor ( "dynamics processing") the right one? I know the sound is not ... ;-)
