Have you ever delete your preferences (C: \ Documents and Settings \ elunatic \ Application Data \ Adobe \ After Effects)? If the update does not work, but it is something fishy. Perhaps RAID or SATA disks with comical drivers? Also: graphics card? OpenGL plugin bouncer?
