Frage von Randoms:I rise today because of a tip of the times I wish to make here.
I was looking for opportunities, because for a project I wanted to have a surround mix.
Then I come across a really cheap solution ...
What you need:
- Dolby Digital Receiver with Multi-Channel In or External decoder section (like almost every movie Freak a stand in the living room)
- Griffin Firewave = $ 49
- 3 cable, mini stereo jack to RCA
The whole thing is super easy:
1) The Griffin is Firewave s.den Mac via Firewire.
2) The wiring from Griffin to the inputs of the surround receiver should be obvious, because the channel descriptions are indeed mapped to the devices.
2) In the Mac System Preferences to select the audio device from Firewave as synonymous and can directly examine the channel allocation.
3) The surround receiver is also available from the multi-channel input, or sometimes the whole is synonymous External decoder.
These are uncoded Eingäge. Also sowas can be seen when each channel using a phono input is represented. Sowas is on the back of a surround receiver quickly recognizable. Or, be read in the BD instructions.
4) In Soundtrack Pro you have to basically just the stereo balance in the Surround Panner mode switch, and then you can start.
I realize that this solution can be measured and no studio solution. But certainly there are synonymous, the user is not financially able to meet this demand and are glad to know a cheap way to be able to realize a 5.1 mix.
The biggest highlight of the thing for me was the Griffin Firewave, because once tried an audio interface with 6 channels for $ 50 get?
By Edirol example, there are solutions as I know, but since one sets out loose 350 + Euros!

For several generations, all Macs, an optical audio output (do see attachment), which - such as iMacs - in the 3.5 jack (headphones) hidden. I've never even been tested, whether it is synonymous to transfer about 5.1, but why not? Before such a anschafft USB interface, I would try it at least once. I am especially upset at the fact the jacks for two channels. Anyone who has a surround receiver, which can recommend a cheap and really good quality equipment
here. EDIT: I see my own fallacies, by Wikipedia:
... S / PDIF pass-through is the term for the transmission of uncompressed Digital sound s.einen external hardware decoder. Transfer would therefore probably only AC3 that has been so available until the last step (export as> DolbyDigital Surround). To monitor speakers are needed six output channels for Aiff 48kHz. Is that so?
Antwort von Randoms:
Exactly the same is not because it is a coded signal that the Mac Imac or spend over your SPDIF output.
This will help you but in the case, not next. Because your tracks that you mix in Soundtrack Pro NOR is uncoded.
Only after you're done with your mix, and then make an AC3 from your earnings, working your way.
You have the right, however, these mini-stereo plugs s.Firewave some are borderline. But it's just about listening situation.
If your film is finished, and you hear it ne AC3 to 5.1, is indeed the Firewave not reappear in the game.
Antwort von klaas:
yes, I can confirm that.
We have therefore in our movies Mac with a RME card with 16 AES / EBU outputs, and in our production Mac a firewire Focusrite Saffire Pro24 (300 ¬) as a surround monitoring solution.
From Focusrite, we proceed as in a 5.1 setup devil.
Although no official monitor speakers, but it is enough to check the layout.

Do you see what Axel Klaas writes ............ and now show me ne alternative to these audio interfaces, p.299 euro upwards there is nothing!
Comparison of the costs Firewave with dispatch from the Equip under $ 100. The cables are totally affordable at Thomann as Example
I am satisfied with the listening situation.
For those who still want to downgrade something, you can synonymous s.das Firewave your little computer surround Boxenset dranhängen.
Thus it is possible to spend as uncoded synonymous AC3 encoded.
Watch DVDs in 5.1 s.Mac is no problem because the Firewave synonymous intus has a decoder. Or zocken in there in 5.1 is synonymous.
And when, once again are preparing for a 5.1 mix which is then synonymous with Soundtrack Pro is no problem because the same Firewave synonymous can spend 5.1 uncoded.
Only the question of quality remains.
Sure, the Mini handles are fragile in Comparison to professional solutions such as XLR or RCA connectors, at least. But I had short cables and no AC hum or noise in the channels.
Personally, I look a "gift horse almost" not sooooo deep into his mouth!
:-)

If it works, fine. I just guess that it generally synonymous with swabs after listening to many who s.der quality. You're leaning on it but certainly from synonymous, a voice-over with a karaoke of Micro McCrypt speak, finally, are you working synonymous s.einem Mac and not s.einem Medion, and this category seems to lie in approximately the Firewave too. Was not meant condescendingly. Dear good not as good as stereo surround.

there is still a solution of Presonus FW, which is 30 ¬ cheaper and supports of Final Cut Pro.
Otherwise, I'm home, the Mackie Onyx Satellite, which gebrucht scarce on ebay will cost 100 ¬ and is very horny for this. It also has a master volume controller, which our Focusrite has not here.
If, however, of Mackie is no longer supported and used gibts nur noch!
OSX and Wind (synonymous vista 64bit) drivers gibts but still! work for us hats synonymous with Final Cut Pro, but I had to buy Virgin else I would have opted for mackie!

So the stereo mix and I'll EQuing using professional stereo active monitor speakers.
The here described "cheap" 5.1 mix is basically just me on the distribution and estimate the 5 surround channels for mixdown, the conversion quality and / or mini-handles as they play a minor role. And out of the so prepared mixture is then drawn through Compressor indeed an impeccable AC3 mix for the DVD.
1000% If you want quality, then enough synonymous your audio interface are far from enough. Then you need a Dolby-certified control room. With professional 5.1 monitoring system ..... and and And. ..
The whole side of it is priced but good and evil.
And that's what was "the DOT" for this tip ......" a cheap way to "get to the goal of becoming ...
