Hello,
I was out after a long and her with ATI and nVidia cards decided, to my beloved old mark return. MATROX. Specifically, I have the G550 in the eye. 3D performance is as good as unimportant. Starting and times to play Counter Strike, but that is of me made synonymous to 800x600 with minimal detail running. Soweiso I play very rarely. Perhaps it 1-2 times a month.
I consider, however, between the PCI and the PCI Express version. The price is the same. Mir is also the question of future security.
Which card is future-proof? PCI-Express or PCI?
I recently read that the current PCI-Express standard with PCI-Express 2.0 should be replaced. The question remains: Does it work? Are the old PCI-Express card with the new standard compatible?
Then of course, still remains the question of how long is the normal PCI slots still available.

For pure 2D applications will hardly play a role. This would be my future use of the priority options.
PCI cards (there are simply too many of them) are synonymous with security in the coming years are still in use.

I think (unfortunately) PCI Express.
Generally this is a big switch "dilemma", because there are many high quality and expensive systems based on PCI function perfectly and you are no longer in a current system can take.
The few hybrid - Boards (PCI and PCI Express) unfortunately have numerous limitations.

For low-and mid-range cards: NO.
The higher data throughput is only in high cards (3D, OpenGL, etc) and felt there to synonymous AGP 8x by far not as much as industry advocates.
The Matrox 550 is a super 2D card and was (is) particularly in the construction of audio workstations the first choice, because the drivers is extremely slim and resource-friendly manner, so that Cubase & Co run perfectly.
If you still want more 3D performance look at the Parhelia 512!
The 3D has ordinary and dual listing - High Quality Screen + TV Out, or even triple screen. Can I highly recommend.
Runs perfectly smooth, even and well-install - ZERO problems.

PS if anyone knows in what direction PCI Express to PCI Adapter / Bridge, then please post - I have here a brilliant scope DSP audio system, which in any case I want to give up, just to play around with a Core2Duo. There is perhaps something the rescue ..

The listing has ordinary 3D well ... I do not know whether the man as "properly" can be described. Comparison to a simple and cost around 60-80 euros ATI X800 rather modest 3D performance.

But you can dranhängen three monitors (or 2 + TV out) and the driver and the multi-screen - desktop run perfectly smoothly. Very good card for the construction of Audio & Video Workstations.
I know it much better for 3D there, but only when all the other stuff you discuss the hot heads on driver versions and patches ..
And soo bad 3D performance is not synonymous again.

I have even a Parhelia and the 3D quality is moderate to beschi .... n, to say directly to formulate. Even the cheapest (ordered) ATIKarte has better 3D features. Recent games such as DOOM 3 are not playable (even in the lowest resolutions). I've tested it :-)
All other functions I have not disputed. But the 3d functions as well to describe, is quite inaccurate or incorrect.

well ... there may be an alternative: It uses two graphics cards. The one for cutting and one for the 3D stuff. If a PCIexpress and AGP slot available, this is feasible.

First, Thanks for all the Antworten.Das only thing I play is s.un s.mal cs. Maybe times Live for Speed. The Parhelia 512 requires active cooling, unfortunately, of such a tiny fan. I fear that he is quite loud. The G550 would be passively cooled. From here forth, I would tend to G550. If one imposes an un Parhelia 512 can tell me how loud the card is?
The Parhelia can turn s.DVI - Output Resolutions represent higher. This in turn would be a point for the Parhelia. (In future Punko Security - 24 inch and so are coming in slowly and are affordable.)
I will, however, no 100 (G550 to 200 (Parhelia) and spend 2 years in yet again to buy a new card (keyword PCI - Express 2.0). I think that the standard PCI connector longer exists. Perhaps in the future, there is synonymous with boards PCI Express and PCI Express 2.0. Unfortunately you can not yet say.
Which should I choose? A Matrox buy once and on the stands a few times gelich system upgrades. How long this is, one at the moment, unfortunately not.
For PCI gibts so much at the moment rather than cards for PCI Express.

How is it eigenltich with the Signalqaulität Matrox cards s.DVI and VGA output.
Matrox is renowned for its good signal quality.
Is that still true? (My last card was a G400MAX).

Matrox 2D remains the best solution. Take it as a PCI version and you plug a cheap PCI Express card at this time. Then you have two options.
