where exactly is the advantage of a higher resolution camera with up to 3MP, but later if for example if it via firewire on a PC lands back to Mpeg2 with PAL and is approximately 576 x720.
Or maybe there no advantage?

The latter is exactly one (slightly) better picture quality - taken at least theoretically. Untrained eyes will not recognize it, however. One should not exaggerate the issue.
