Infoseite // Native MPEG2 editing + Processing?

Hello! :-)

I currently work mainly with "VirtualDub" to avi videos to cut and certain post-processing (noise, crop, resize, color) to operate.

Now I have several high-quality VHS tapes to DVD and would like to naturally migrate to the great editing features of "VirtualDub" not to miss, since no other software I have the same possibilities of postprocessing provides.
Unfortunately, I can probably with "VirtualDub" not encode MPEG2 files, so I have only the detour through a different codec like xvid or divx "is what I get with a DVD-authoring software to convert MPEG2 (quality loss). ..

unfortunately I can not synonymous famous video editing software (Adobe, Ulead, Sony, Cyberlink, magix, etc.) directly with MPEG2 files to work, let alone as a target MPEG2 format write. I also miss the good plugins & filters from VirtualDub, "even" premiere "has no indication of such simple possibilities ...

maybe someone knows an alternative?

That is a possibility. The other: You start in VirtualDub a frame server (in the "File" menu), on which you access with TMPGEnc. The MPEG-2 encoder in TMPGEnc free funzt for legal reasons, only 30 days.

It is not only that, comparatively strong lossy codecs. You can lossless and still save space HuffYUV use or subtly compressed DV codec.

Exactly. The method with intermediate storage in a loss-free / low cost codec some disk space, but allows you full freedom in the choice of the authoring program / MPEG encoder (the frame server of Virtual Dub does not halt all know).
