I only skimmed the thread, but those small USB hard disks indeed serve only as an overflow for a laptop on which one sucks the P2 cards.
In the field, say at an event that is probably far too cumbersome. It should ideally be a the Firestore FS-type 100 modeled solution, only cheaper. With 100 GB I'm feeling good, with 2 x 100 GB secure. With 4 or 8 GB of your time sitting in the neck.

I think at best a "Panasonic HVX200 Firestore", which is probably the same thing, DV hard drive recorder and remarkable handicrafts (MiniMac angepapptem with touch-screen monitor ...). 'm Not so good at Google and would be grateful for a link.

few gigabytes of SD cards cost almost nothing more, and yes fast enough were those things synonymous.
But I bet in P2 is any communication protocol, etc. installed which is Patented and therefore cheap replicas, Adapters, etc. prevented.
