my new GS180 camcorder has Firewire and USB 2.0 connection and both work.
As a decades-long hobby photographer and film-former narrow, I am accustomed manageable controls, but the majority of users seem to know no more sensible solution than the mini-joystick in this price class.
Very annoying, however, the tiny and little memorable icons on the screen (away from the viewfinder screen not to mention).
