Infoseite // Quality comparison mpeg2/xVid - Please help

Frage von seronil43:

Hi All,
yes there are some opinions of you in my original thread in the direction of "let the mpeg2 capture, compress twice before you" went, I still have time to experiment, but I still try to not give up so much space on the DVD

In these 2 versions came about:

The first version would be a Halfpal capture, so you could bring at least 2 average movies on a DVD:
http://www.mikroh.de/gp/vhsTheoM2Mi.OrginalCapture.mpg
(; Neck approx 20MB)

The second version is my previous best XVid version of the Fullpal-mpeg2 capture is caused
http://www.mikroh.de/gp/vhsTheoM2Hi.fullpal.crop.deinter_shiftodd.avi
(; same section, at about 7MB)

As much as I try, I can not say which of the two versions look better, or is for me the better, I find quite similar.

Maybe you can your expert with the keen eye out and throw the same time make an assessment? That would be great, then I could easily make up my mind, I next direction in which to experiment.

Thank & Regards
Sero

You will not notice any particular jump in quality, because your source does seem to be a VHS and has a resolution anyway.

Even if one were runterskalieren the video to 512x384, you would recognize s.normalen Television with normal seat pitch no difference. You can see that even in apparently MPEG2 version, for which is only 480x576 pixels.

However, if you codierst interlaced sources to XviD, you should use in each case a deinterlacer - especially as the image content anyway movie is (; ergo progressive).
