Hi,
I would like a mpeg2 file in Final Cut editing. This file is in Quicktime opens correctly, in FC, I have, however, of the first pixel, broken fonts. How can this approach? I've made a screenshot.

Salut Patrick,
since no sequence by default setting "Mpeg2" there, the material in the video display of the first, even realtime engine in the chosen format - say DV PAL - "translated", and the preview synonymous with highest quality as a proxy.
Second, a favorable Mpeg2 Compression for a relatively low-loss Presentation (Quicktime is a player with the Mpeg2 component of the material can play natively, such as the Apple DVD player, hence the better quality), but not for any post in a less compressed codec.
It makes sense to first - for example with the free
MPEG Streamclip to DV to decompress it, and in Final Cut Pro with this material directly to work. A quality deterioration, however, is inevitable. When it comes to tough cuts, is therefore of the way through Final Cut Pro is not advisable, because this application is not considered professional to handle it natively. The same applies synonymous for MP3, the Final Cut Pro is also imported, but internal "as" uncompressed treated.

I just try different sizes on a better result to get, but I wanted to actually save this progressive ... to see how the quality is there is really bitter!

patrick If neither color or other effects are applied, and if the cuts are manageable, you can use the material natively in Quicktime Pro or MPEG Streamclip and trim the pieces as a separate movie clips exported. This will change the film None (= deterioration) subject, but only the excerpt in a new file is copied. Put together the snippets, you can turn with these programs (a bit awkward using copy & paste) or somewhat comfortable in the timeline of DVD Studio Pro. In this way, I have to fast times already an old film Holiday drastically reduced without the new tapes and new digitizer to be cut.
For a truly creative cutting, this process is of course too cumbersome. Whether it is a native Mpeg2 cut for Macs are the opportunities in the Final Cut Pro is, I do not know and I doubt.
