Frage von Randoms:After me now my 1TB MyBook external disk is out, and half an hour later addressed is (;) fortunately, I am looking for a solution in the event of total failure!
I was a little well-read and think RAID1 is best suited.
On the firewire disk "My book Studio Edition" of Western Digital My video data are for the cut with Final Cut Pro.
This plate, I would now like to reflect.
Can I just turn on the Mac, the Raid1 and take me a second TB disk from a different company operating?
I get as Eg next to the Firewire disk synonymous one of Western Digital 1TB USB2 disk, I could make the raid synonymous with the slower disk.
I would like to work with the DV editing with the fast Firewire disk (the security of data with Raid 1 mirroring) on a slower disk hampered me in not so cut!? Or?
How long is the Flip takes me yes no preference.
Or because I do not understand something?
Or, it MUST be for the raid s.end an identical record?
Has anyone of you the solution of Western Digital 2TB raid and can tell me about experience?
Here example of Amazon

Look forward to more than hints.
Antwort von PowerMac:
No, no identical plates. No man takes it also overpriced external hard disks. Some housing and any plate - done. And, no, no USB 2.0. Take Firewire.

No man takes it also overpriced external hard disks. Please a link to the external RAID enclosures with eSATA, Firewire 400/800, USB 2.0 and Server hard drives, all together with a 5 year warranty which I come cheaper than the Western Digital solution. Thank you.

Hmm, I've now ordered the views 2TB Raid 1 solution.
Let's see how the slips.
What I still wonder: Created one of the raid in disk utility, or the Western Digital software?
Respectively. Either, or, is it?
Or you have to configure both?
Antwort von carstenkurz:
It all depends. If the box as a RAID system is sold, it will be a RADI controller who can manage the RAID, regardless of the Calculator. Of course, the box is synonymous to know a mode in which both disks are accessed as separate volumes - one might configure the RAID synonymous over the disk utility on the Mac. When an external device, but it is more appropriate (in each case; = faster), the handle on the drive controller.
