Frage von Dirk124:Hello,
I want to buy me an external RAID system, either with USB port, or as a NAS.
I have since found a cheap housing:
Thecus N 2050
And Netgear SC 101 NAS.
Do you have this experience?
Can you recommend other inexpensive Systme?
Thank you very much.
Dirk
Antwort von Markus:
Hello Dirk,
what kind of RAID system have you got in mind? One for data redundancy, one for more capacity (and higher data transfer speed), or both?
In each case, () especially for more speed, I would be a Firewire enclosure (possibly even taking FW-800). FW-800 has a data transfer rate of 800 Mbit / s, "standard Firewire" least of constant 400 Mbit / s.

Maximum 480 (USB) or constant 400 (Firewire)?

Hello,
it comes to data security, ie, Raid 1 only once.
It is important to me to save my raw video and digital images to ensure the long term.

Dirk,
accidentally come across the question
I am using the Thecus N2050
as Raid-0 with 2 160GB disks
(up to 2x 500GB possible)
Unlike the previous speaker, which is faster than Firewire 400/800 or USB -2, only eSATA too little is known
as a practical example:
I still have an internal RAID-0, with 2 SATA disks (each 120GB)
on the Intel ICH5R on ASUS P4C800-E DLX
one belonging to the cut-SW Test tool shows here:
extends for 7 DV streams
Thecus is the "DV streams suitable for 5" is displayed
Intere a single SATA disk, shows the same value
Brakes will be the PCI card for eSATA port and the Thecus Raid Controller.
But to render files and other video files very well suited if synonymous INTERN panels are faster.
But go a USB disk directly Renner -2

Hello,
I have the Netgear SC101. Actually, I've made very good experiences. At least for my traditional data (photos, music), it is Onabe for DV editing, I would not recommend it. It is too slow. Especially with video so you know, comes to large amounts of data and here it is much slower than for example a USB - or Fiwi plate.
I think I have, when I set it up around 150GB data is copied to the disk (RAID 1 = mirrored) full redundancy. Copy That I believe has used a whole day. Ner with external disk is faster.

Take for God's sake no NAS - Who here is not just played in the 5000 Euro-League want but as a consumer as part of the one RAID1 capable of alternate housing for 100 euros in the sense you - forget it! Data transfer rates of 5 MB per second range over the network not even for A DV stream format, those things are synonymous with Fat32 and I know this is basic evil.
My advice would be: A single record, but with a 5 year warranty with WD that is, for example, Raid Edition. They are then selected from within and not guaranteed after 3 months like so many Billigplatte.
The data are still archived on the tapes - they then leave. I do not, they'd raid on nem expensive system to archive the tapes if it is still there as a backup.
