I would like to share here synonymous in this forum about my experience of transferring Hi-8 tapes to DVD. This is not a tutorial, but the idea is rather that maybe a few more are in the process, which are helpful for you. For such projects it is indeed synonymous never survive without their own experiments.
Since I did not have a DVD recorder, I have chosen the computer method for dubbing, so a converter with Camera and Firewire card s.Laptop.
As video equipment was available: SonyEV-S9000E Hi8 recorder MVX3i Canon mini-DV Camera and SonyDCR-TR7000E Digital Input-8 camera with video enabled ".
The Hi-8 starting material consisted almost entirely of processed bands, so already 1x for use on Hi-8, and copied to the Hi8 PCM stereo track overdubbed. Many of these videos have been with an old Canon Hi-8 camera created and processed with the old SonyHi8 Recorder EV-S1000E. The great advantage of the Sony recorder 1000E and 9000E was that it was uploading on a special PCM audio track in stereo later as the Music and in fairly good quality.
Now, to dub: It is often said that one should necessarily using Digital-8 cameras instead of the Hi8 recorders, since then the quality would be better. This I can confirm for my DCR-TR7000E not synonymous, and that is probably because I had already edited videos and no more original bands. The Picture was unstable and the overdubbed when playing PCM audio track was not reproduced synonymous. Whether this is better in other (newer) digital-8 cameras go, I can not say unfortunately.
Thus, the SonyHi-8 Recorders 9000E the optimal solution? Unfortunately, not quite. Both the old 1000E, 9000E are dreaded as synonymous to the image because of constant errors (drop outs, etc.) and so many design flaws. When A / D converter has proven to be the Canon MVX3i because the Picture sS-VHS input was better than the TR7000E. the with the edited tapes is an interesting aspect. Incidentally, I have been synonymous of those who Digital8 camcorder to playback analog Hi8 and Video8-tapes recommend (and even been synonymous only positive experiences - with one TRV310 - I).

I have not had the opportunity to try out, if my TRV310 is synonymous reflect the PCM track of a Hi8 recording. When I was still a linear cut, I played the 8mm material on SuperVHS.
Since I cut the arts 15 years ago in narrow limits, I found that most of my (Längsspur set to music-needed) SVHS master a highly technical and, above all substantive revision. For the following, digital "Director's Cut" I then went back to Video8 or Hi8 up originals.
Maybe you could be the basic principle of Zweibandvertonung of time to pick up and then digitize your videos: Play the Hi8 tape with one Digital8 camcorder (in order to optimal picture) and then play the same Hi8 tape with one Hi8) recorder (in order to optimal sound. On your computer, you merge Picture and Sound in the timeline again.
I think that audio and video are run synchronously, a sufficiently long time and shorten only few minor corrections (eg views a scene one frame or renew a fade to black, at one frame) are needed.

The EV-S9000E PAL is always the best solution to spend the tapes. My original Sony Camcorders zb brought with all the original tapes have been much worse playback dropouts and a mass of up to denial of playing. EV-S9000E PAL - No problem. Even with tapes from other camcorders
