Maybe you have it already done? If not just look (if Mik is inserted directly s.PC): Start -> Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Advanced
Here to see if the betreffenmde channel is fully open and the microphone amplifier (via Advanced reach) is enabled.

The newer MD recorders do not have a mic input anymore. Schade.
