Hello,
I have a fairly negative article about the forum WMV read. Because of the apparently viable VC1 codec, I do not understand what is so bad with WMV should be. The test results are ok and he is the only codec which synonymous for standalone use (DVD, etc.) but synonymous - now - for streaming can be used.

- I need a container and the appropriate codec for general archiving purposes, on the hard drive:
My alternatives are: WMV (VC1) and XVID
- I need something for Streaming:
Alternatives are: SD: WMV 9 HD: WMV VC1
- I need something for DVD authoring
Alternatives are: SD: MPEG2 HD: WMV VC1 / H264
Would you better ideas? The choice is of course not only the quality, but compatibility and conversion time is important.
What do you use for the AVI - Target format "conversion? I Edius 4 Pro or Mediacoder if necessary ... ?

WMV/VC-1 is certainly a more efficient codec and for the of Dir ausgeguckten applications. I personally do not like it, because M $ to me for a long time too strong and powerful and after a short time again their own "standards" umschmeißt. All naslang new, incompatible document formats in Office, with 'its new Windows version like a new, incompatible with the precursors driver model, etc. Or the point that they now synonymous again with Vista durchexerzieren: You have to you for the latest hardware (DirectX 10 ) buy a new operating system - a good driver would be if the M $ wanted to do synonymous. (Apple, we leave such considerations for short times outside.)
So I would you like from more fundamental considerations to XviD guess - this is an open story and I know a little less hardware hungry (synonymous but not quite as efficient as VC-1).
