Hi, I am looking for a CAM for animal films specifically designed for safari. Photo Technically I'm already very well equipped (Canon D50 + Sigma 300-800). Now I want to show our DIA with video upgrade. Previously, I had a Canon MVX10i, very nice and good but still not bring the desired result. A little more professionalism as a home theater of character would be good ;-).

What is next to me a good picture and sound quality is important:
- A Tele-/Zoom the focal of a converted up to 800 mm brings
- Micro with windscreens or connection for external
- Weight <5 kg

I cut and edit the movies on a Mac / OS X with Final Cut Express, so that format should be compatible.

I am somewhat informed and on the Canon XL H1A encountered. If only for professional filmmakers and what there is for further Lenses in what price range?

Is it synonymous with the cameras I use my EF Lenses (Canon) use.

I hope you're aware that your camera looking at least 4000 euros will cost more than 5000 euro. Exclusive Tele-Lenses.

The camera prices are not the problem, included is a 20-fold zoom lens is, but not enough. I still have not found Lenses for video, but think that it is very expensive. Therefore I am looking for alternatives.

I already thought ;-) synonymous, then my old holding an iMac G5 with a new Final Cut soft, this should not be the problem.

Times I'm going assume that you're not on the tourist photo safaris are wilt. There is a quite difference between image and film writer. For photos can even get out of hand and with series of images in accordance with a short exposure time a really hard time to be included.

Thanks for the replies so far, and perhaps come a few more next week before I moved to Munich to go Sauter and let me advise. But before this, I would myself as smart as possible.

Got the SonyHDR-FX1000E and the HVR-Z5E views, which is very interesting to listen to. HD Video Lenses are now synonymous, I have found interesting but since the approximately 50,000 euros to start, this consideration is unnecessary.

As a tourist I call synonymous, but we always have a car with rangers for us alone, so long as we can stand still. The car is for the photographer / filmmaker and is then ordered equipped for eg tripod mounting, etc.

Purchase a Canon XL1S / 2, you can use with EF adapter .... AF will not work and must be manual.

But I commend times that you can save because EFAdapter.

I use to s.and L IS 70 - 300 mm s.Ihm and without Monopod front off the very difficult.

The standard lens ranges from completely. (5.5 - 88 mm x = ca.7 is 38.5 - 616mm)

In my eyes is the next SonyPMW EX models because most of A and O, which is handling and quality is concerned.

Since it is practically not long I think about, which takes you in hand and recognizes with the trained eye it is a professional device.

Sorry yes you right is the EF 70 - 300 USM, which I addressed here or with the EF 70-200mm 1:4 L IS USM was confused. the 28 - 300 I have not yet NEN EF 100-400mm 1:4.5-5.6 L IS USM

Animal films are often synonymous with beautiful slow motion shots from.
So always bear in mind what can the Cam, what do I want to make. Do I need s.Ende no high Cam. For a 1.30-cent range then sometimes 16:9 and a bissel sound. Such mills are available from Ebay s.Meer like sand and not even cost that much.
What I want to say, for a quality film you need something more than an XL1 with adapter. Current HD technology and a capable team are prerequisite for a good animal film.
It is of course possible, a beautiful film with a Canon to shoot, but quality is of course not! (We are talking here not by the technique of content)

In the case of a HDW-730s, I am already relaxed Lens with ¬ 100,000 going on and I have, at least not yet ;-), the BBC's ambition to become filmmakers, or with my camera to earn money. This to me is missing besides the Camera synonymous the time for months in the bush in order to film enough material for these often ingenious cuts to come by. But who knows, maybe yes's still coming.

What kind of slow values make sense? So far I have only the slow motion sequences in Final Cut furnished.

@ Wolfgang, synonymous to you many thanks for your tips. From idea EF Lenses s.eine HDCAM to screw me, I have adopted. If I apply for a camera with interchangeable lens should decide, then I would take Lenses video, I think everything else is not really useful.

So make the most of Cams hold only 50 fields (25fps), then there should be one of you as already in Final Cut Pro, the clip stretch - but what then only slow motion represents.

Hello,

Today I have the FX1000 and the XL H1A views and advice me. I was the FX is recommended mainly because of easier handling. With the XL H1A, one to a good result to get a lot of manual settings. In the FX go much longer with automatic transmission. Manual and yes you can still recruit.

Hello,

I congratulate the new equipment. You have exactly the same package in early January as I myself have risen.
The decision for the CF recorder synonymous, I have taken since I HDV is a new player spare.
I now work at the same time, so I HDV on tape and CF card recording. The tapes, I moved to the archive and with the material of the cards I cut. The tapes are only for security.
I myself do not take HDV tapes but Panasonic AY-DVM60FE.
I have been working for years with these bands and am extremely satisfied. I know some recommend HDV tapes for HDV but I feel it as much too overpriced. And whether they really have an advantage, well I do not know.
However, I have it synonymous only to the security in the archives are in the same attack and I almost never.

Congratulations to the equipment. Is always a difficult decision because it is not every day one buys Cam. But I think you have a good choice. For your projects that Tierfilmerei are proposals for the Canon D5 Mark etc. absurd. A photo has never clippers handling a Henkelmann.
tapes, I always used the simple Sony Premium. The Very and really were very few dropouts to watch. As master, I have but then the Sony HDV tapes made.

Now I feel with my decision very well. I think I now have all the tests and reports on the XL-H1A read. The better and better viewfinders Lowlightverhalten was ultimately decisive for the Z5. What helps me the best camera if I did not see whether it is sharp ;-).

In early March I will be the first time with the new film, for an equestrian event. The only way to practice until October so I'm reasonably fit for my trip to the Masai Mara.

@ Snakenic and Jogi, both bands will be trying times. But with the handling of tape as an archive map to cut and I will probably take over synonymous.

Can you me a good wide-angle converter and a teleporter recommend?
